V6 rear crankcase breather box membrane
« on: 04 August 2011, 09:39:39 »

Hi All!

Could someone help me out with the GM catalog number of the gum membrane in the V6 crankcase breather box?
I have removed the box for cleaning/checking and it was hardened and broken. I have just called the local stealer, but they didn't know what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance!

If you mean the sealant that acts as a gasket between the engine block mounting face and the breather box the part number is 93165267

Nope.

If you look into the breather box from the engine side, there are two ways to the air. One hole seems free, another is covered by this rubber plate, which is thightened only on one side.

I really wouldnt worry about the rubber flap. It goes hard and loosess function with no ill effect as far as i can tell.

But I suspect it's only available with a new complete breather box.

Unless someone with epc can glean a specific part number?

Later models have a flap. Earlier models have the flap built into a gaskit joining the box to the block.

If it helps I cleaned mine out as the holes where blocked, but never replaced the flap. Heat and oil make it swell and go hard anyway.

Thanks mate!

That was I meant. I would not care about it either, but unfortunately I have broken it into 5+ small pieces when I tried to clean it :)
I preserved the two pieces which contain the GM code, but I don't know where I put it :(

So, is it a workaround using the legacy gasket if I could by one?

Thanks!

The flap isn't avaiable as a seperate item so you would have to buy a new breather box.

When it took the lid off my breather box and cleaned all the crud out i binned my flap and have never had a problem and that was a couple of years ago

Re Grey goo.

When re fitting, vx use a grey instant gasket type stuff to seal the breather box to the block. It is the same grey instant gasket that's used to seal the oil cooler cover plate. Just to clear that up.

But re the initial question, what is the purpose of the flap? Out of interest...?

As far as I imagine the box acts as a trap for engine oil. The flap should prevent air blowing up on that side, but let oil flowing down back to the crankcase.

This is my assumption.

In older models there was a gasket between thebox and the engine block, and I found some threads with pictures here in the forum.

What if I make a gasket like this of a beercan? :)

Everybody refers to this, but I am not allowed to see it, why?
