Misfire
« on: 31 July 2011, 16:02:38 »

Now got a V5 Elite saloon - only running on 5 pots.  Narrowed it down to rear plug drivers side.  Swapped plugs and set of ignition leads - still the same.  No codes showing.  Definitely no spark at that plug and compressions all around 200psi.

Guess its the DIS pack - which I can see just and feel (changed the ignition leads one at a time) - and have the scars to show - as I'm on Warfarin tend to bruise easily and also cut easily (PITA or in this case in the wrists/lower arms)

Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to swap these, and what sort of bolts hold them in - is it a torx with a female head and what size is it?  Best bit of kit to remove?

Or is there someone local with smaller hands than me and less tendency to bleed who is prepared to help for cash or beer tokens?

Thanx

Take off the plenum and the upper divider bit that has the injectors on...makes it easy to get to the dispack and remove it...4 bolts holding it in place...or I believe you can remove the scuttle to aid access instead but I have not done it that way...took me 1.5 hours but no cuts scrapes or scars :y

Thanks for that.

What is bolt thread as I guess they may be corroded in and I could replace with suitable cap heads.

I found it easier to take out the wiper mechanism and take the scuttle off. Headtorch helped for me and the bolts to the right hand side are the trickiest so I left the tinkers off in case I have to venture down there again......... but to be honest I would rather rummage in Vanessa Feltz's bloomers than go back in there ever again ::) ;D

I just did my Dis pack. I took the scuttle, plenum, the top part of the injectors, the idle speed adjuster valve and the plastic wiring harness carrier. I then used cable ties to hold as many of the vacuum pipes etc over to the drivers side of the engine bay as I could to give clearer access.

To help me remember what went where,I marked things (like plug leads)with correcting fluid as I went.

This might seem a little excessive but it gave much easier access to the Dis Pack without the need to rip all the skin off my hands. In fact I was pleasantly surprised how relatively easy it was to remove.

E10 torx. The screws are long so you don't have to worry about losing them, undo them fully with the tool and then finally take them out by hand. The front one on the passenger side is tucked away so I put a small piece of kitchen towel over the socket so that it made a tighter fit on the screw head, so I could lift it out still attached.

I know I should have replaced the seals on the injector assembly but I confess that I didn't.

Changed DIS pack this morning - thanks Chris removing the inlet manifold makes it so much easier both to get at the fixing bolts and to remove pack.  As advised used 8mm socket - found 8mm long slim socket with "baby" ratchett ideal.

Misfire now gone & back to 6 cylinders ;) ;)

Due to the Warfarin now covered in cuts and bruises though  :(
