as said earlier,rocker gaskets fine,all looks like new under coil packs,new plugs fitted and a maf was swapped with a genuine Bosch one from a friends car,the more i look into this the more im convinced some one has played around with the vacuum pipes and i now need a 2.6 to look under the bonnet and compare

its the 2002 2.6 and has the coil pack so no leads,ive just been looking at engine pics and noticed a few things,my car has only got 2 of the thin 4mm plastic vacuum pipes running from the back to the front,in the pics ive looked at there are 3 pipes? also i found a vacuum pipe diagram and mine are not the same as that.....the plot thickens :-/

Always forget they dont have leads.....doh

A dollar bets ten, that when it starts buggering about you switch it off and on again and its fine for a bit.

Does yours run fine and then mess about once it's been left idling for a bit? If so then it's got the same problem as mine. Probably.

Mine's a 3.2 and has done approx 178k. What mileage are you at? I've not touched the cats, but have changed the maf sensor, plugs, coil packs, ecu, injectors and inlet manifold all to no avail. throttle body looks to be next on the list :-/

OK..UPDATE TIME...........
 went round to see a man with good knowledge and a sh*t load of parts...he let me look,pull and poke around under the bonnet of a 3.2 he just happened to have laying around doing nothing..
turns out all my vacuum pipes are arse about tit and phoobared.
so ,,,,,get this,,,he gave me a hand full of breather and vacuum pipes that i need with all the T pieces and little rubber elbows to renew all mine with lots of spare ones 
and to top that off he then looked at my knackerd bonnet / scuttle rubber and gave me a new one......TOP BLOKE !!!!!!
Will fit new pipes tomorrow and let you all know

found that out today,2.5 and the 3.0 the same and the 2.6 and 3.2 are the same..many thanks

ok yesterday i fitted new vacuum pipes correctly and reset all fault codes,all went fine for first 70 miles then got a splutter and light came on again but car still running fine,,,so in a min im going to go down and strip off plenham and clean out all breathers and vac tanks...will let you know what happens
