Cats question and intake question :)
« on: 23 August 2011, 14:45:26 »

Greetings and salutations.

once again I have few questions :)

a) I am going to change cats on my 3.0 '98 Omega.
With this I would like to replace exhaust manifolds (or how is it called) from those from 3.2 to lower the restriction. The cats I would like to use the MagnaFlow ones as I like the sound of them ;) But from I understood from this forum, Omega needs some good backpressure and since MagnaFlow is promissing lowering of this, won't this be too much (I will also replace middle mufflers with resonators)? Also I have found on their pages only cats for Omega that can be used in California, so they are quite expensive. Is there a way to find universal cat that is suitable for it?

b) I would like to use cone filter ;) I know it is bad as it takes hot air from engine bay, but I like how it highlitghts the V6 roar, so I am thinking about ways how to get it without hampering performance.
So what if I will install a metal sheet around it to isolate it from the rest of the bay. Furthermore I will make the intake on hood (like for intercooler) to blow the air directly from outside onto cone. That way no hot air from engine can be sucked in, right? I think I will have to clean it more often, but what if it will be raining and water will get on it? Or can there be another problem?

Sorry if those questions are dumb, I am still noob around cars.

Thank you for any answer :)

Yup as I understood there is no performance gain from cone filter, I was even warned about performance loss. But that sound is nice, so I am looking for ways how to use it :)

And why did you put it back to original box?

because it did nothing for performance and fuel consumption was slightly worse.i agree it enhanced the sound but you need to drive it a bit harder to get the sound ;)
