Door pops open
« on: 29 August 2011, 00:43:09 »

Hit a slight pothole earlier this evening and the drivers door swung open. I thought I must have not closed it properly, but then it happened again as I went over the 'rumble lines' approaching a roundabout.
I'll have a look at it tomorrow, but before I start dismantling things, has anyone experienced this before, and is there an easy 'squirt of WD40' type fix  ?

I had same problem with mine 6 weeks ago. Turned out i needed a new door latch mech and door pillar striker.

You might be lucky with WD40 but its more than likely to need a new mech.

Don't get this confused with a door lock though.

Yep, probably need a new latch mech but you could try adjusting the pin first. I highly doubt it will sort it though

Had same problem a while ago. Had to drive everywhere with my hand either holding the door closed from the inside, or have my window open and hang my arm outside to hold the door closed  :o Not a nice experience.

Got a replacement latch off of ebay and had a mechanic mate of mine fit it.

Is it worth adjusting the catch on the b pillar out board a bit...? Or is that what LD just said...

Tried adjusting the door pillar pin/striker, but no joy.

I probably scared the cr@p out of some poor driver coming towards me as I went around an adverse cambered sharp down hill left hander earlier this evening. The door popped and swung right open. They must have been horrified to see a large champagne gold door coming out of the dark at them. A seriously near miss.
Would have been bad enough to have hit the car, but imagine if it had been a bike.  :o
I'm off tomorrow so I'll pop down my mates breakers.

Sorted. No miggys at my mates breakers, but the mechanisim from an Astra looked about right. Central locking servo had to be swapped over due to different connectors.
