Lifters changed..
« on: 04 February 2008, 20:29:36 »

Changed all the lifters on the 2-4-6 bank of the Estate today. There was one definately knackered.

Seems OK for the mo, Going to run it to Wales shortly, and will report back after.

Am knackered, I've just noticed I've had lots of PMs, which I will read and reply to in the morning!

Excellent.

I've been busy shouting at offshored ASGs, smashing up laserjets against bedroom doors, and winding up OOF members ::)

The reason for the extra half an hour, was that the thing did NOT want to time back up.

1mm out on the 246 bank whatever I did. So I started from scratch, and got it bang on with that attempt. Probably didn't help that I didn't have a 30mm spanner (lost it!) So turning the adjusters was a little challenging and required some "improvisation" ::)

There was one clearly knackered lifter. It would not "firm up" no matter how much I pumped it in a cup of oil...

I removed the T vents, and they had 2 holes, and were clear, so all is good on that score.

Just done 75 miles, so far all the lifters are quiet.

Noticed earlier a VERY intermittent and irregular tap on a lifter on the the 135 bank, which I hope will go away with a few oil changes.

Otherwise, those camshafts will be the next ones coming out  >:(

Pics to follow :)

She is running absolutely fine at the moment - tomorrow I'm going to do the ATF, and on Wednesday another engine oil and filter change :)

Quiet as a mouse now that lifter is sorted.

Noticed a slight blow on the drivers side exhaust earlier, I'm almost sure it's the downpipe to manifold join. I re-used the sealing ring on there, 'cos I couldn't find my new one  ::)

For goodness sake, leave her alone, turn the stereo up and you won't hear any more noises !   Things will settle down after a few miles, give your mods a chance to bed in.  :y :y :y

let's hope so....

I haven't found it yet, but somewhere or other I should have a replacement exterior temperature sensor for it as well.....  I bought one ages ago, and never got around to crawling around down the front to fit it....    it went U/S after I hit that deer...    and the repair idiots direct line insisted on claimed no knowledge of it....    "and it's electrical, and we don't do electrical faults"

So I bought  one...

One day, I might even work out where I put it....

An exhaust blow will never settle down - it will only get worse if not rectified :y
