cam cover goo drying time?

So just finished the passenger side of the V6 cam cover gaskets on MotherT's 3.0, what a pig of a job!

Just about to start the easier drivers side, but once its all back together should i wait a while before starting/running?

When I did my 2.2 cam cover gasket (which was such an easy to do enjoyable job!) I left it over night as I did not need the car.

I'd like to use the estate today, not sure how long I should wait?  :-/

As its a pig of a job, i'll leave it over night then, don't fancy doing this job again.

I've noticed though, the drivers side gasket is a lot softer, the passenger side was metal, infact the rubber screw gaskets came out looking like metal!

The rubber does go solid with time. I'd wager that the driver's side has been changed before and they couldn't be @rsed to do the fiddly side. ::)

Probably too late now, but as Kevin Wood says, I'd try to leave overnight if possible, though in reality, I guess 2 or 3 hours should be enough.

Whilst its one of my 'pet hate' jobs, its not too bad, though helps to have someone just hold the cables up out of the way.

Provided that the breathing system is working as it should the sealant can be said to be effective after an hour or so. That is how repairers can get the job out the same day. Overnight is obviously best for a full cure but the covers should also not have been pulled down fully tight. I always do them again the day after with just a little nip extra. :y
Hope you used OEM seals!

He would have used GM stuff, and a torque wrench :y

GM stuff used & torqued it was fired up yesterday, and to my surprise it ran sweet as a nut!  :o  ;D

Gave it the italian tune up as it had been stood for nearly 6 weeks, goes well now   8-)
