Eternal Exhausts - backbox
« on: 13 September 2011, 18:04:08 »

If I were to put an Eternal exhaust on my 3.2 Elite, could I use the single outlet (ie, 2.5) backbox instead of twin outlet (ie 3.0)?

Also, I assume the prefacelift and facelift exhausts are the same on the V6, ignoring that the prefacelift backboxes are slightly shorter...

Would guess so Jaime - I had to fit a twin outlet box on the 2.5 Estate due to non availability of single outlet box at the time - fitted ok with minor tweak to one of the hangers :y

Long as its a saloon back box for yours as Estate & Saloon back boxes different.

I fitted a twin outlet rear box from a 3.2 on my 2.5, so it should be the same the other way round. :y

No restriction to flow using single outlet?

Possibly. Mine certainly lets more noise flow out the back than the single outlet did. A bit too much if Im honest. :-/

Interesting question!

Considering quite a lot of power does come from the exhaust, flow is important.

But would a single pipe make that much of a difference? What if it was one pipe but then split into two in a stainless tip?

Dunno about a pukka twin outlet box (working correctly, that is) compared to a 2.5 single.

But do know that fitting a shiney new Irmscher twin outlet to my estate made a mahoosive difference, given that the one it replaced had a collapsed pipe on one side.

Remember checking it at the lakes and the fuel trims?  All sorted now....   ;)

Something was wrong with your old backbox IIRC, only getting gases from one pipe?

Curiously, most people go the other way. Twins on to a 2.5 to make it look like a 3.0 for the pose factor. I know i did when I had my 2.5 elite.
So, either you've got a single outlet back box kicking around or you want people to think it's a 2.5 and then leave them standing off the lights.  ;D ;D
Alternatively, maybe that's all eternal have now.  :-/
