LPG Second Hand
« on: 19 September 2011, 15:24:34 »

Hi, I can get a second hand LPG System.
It has been taken off a 3.2v6.

It is a Dream XX1-D system.

Does anyone know whether these systems are reliable?
Has anyone had any dealing with this type of system before?

I would be very careful about buying an LPG system second hand. Yes, it can work out cheaper, but bear in mind that there are a lot of parts you will still require. All the hoses and pipes, along with quite a few of the fittings, will not be safe to re-use IMHO, so you will have to buy new.

The loom may well have been cut to suit the previous car, so this will need to be reworked when you put it into a new car.

You may not have, or be able to get hold of, a wiring diagram to work out how to splice the loom into the car's electrics.

You may well find that tuning software is available to professional fitters only, so you can't tune the installation when  it's finished.

If you can't see the original vehicle running on LPG before purchase, the kit may have problems that will only make it more difficult to get up and running on gas.

I would only recommend going that route if you have converted a couple of cars in the past and know your way around an LPG setup very well. Even then, it would have to be very cheap to be worth the potential extra aggro, IMHO.

OMVL is genericish ECU so should be OK

Injectors do wear on them though

Worth using if you get it cheap

I can get it for £200 - does that sound reasonably cheap?

The only thing he said was missing was the copper pipe leading from the tank to the engine bay as he could not remove it from the car.

Next question - is anyone available to fit it for me? (paid of course and many cups of tea)

Is that just the front end or everything?

I am told it is for everything (including plenum etc.)
The only thing missing is the copper pipe leading from the tank to the front where the engine is.

Not bad price then, but you want to use poly flex for that piping, copper would be a pig to work with  :y

To me, if it needs the plenum then it's not a particularly tidy installation ;) You should barely be able to tell that the car has been converted IMO ;)

Anyway. As said OMVL is a reputable brand but £200 is a lot of money for a 2nd hand kit IMO (unless the tank is a toroidal instead of a cylinder). The deal we have would probably see a full V6 kit that is proven to work set you back under £600 and you'd have the warranty and backup of those of us who know the kit to help with any snags/issues ;)

after lpg installation, if any problem arises (will, no doubt) you can hardly distinguish that its from the kit or from the setup or from car itself.. :-/

Exactly why you should have a known good running car with no issues before introducing LPG into the mix.

So when are you free to help me install mine then Paul?  ;D :y

Given the posters history I'd advise against playing with lpg systems at all tbh....sorry, might be an unfair comment, but it's not something to Pesh about with IMO.

 Needs saying. Just does!

Agree.

Based on all the comments, I am going to forget about buying a second hand LPG System or attempting it myself.

Which brings me on to the next question,
I can get the LPG System from LazyDocker, but is there anyone that can  fit it.
Or if the fitter only fits a system they supply, then this also is an option.

PM me if you can carry out the work in the next 3 weeks.
