« on: 09 March 2007, 16:29:04 »

Hi i have a 2002 omega with a double din CDR 2005 head unit and was wondering how to remove it?

I can get the facia part of the stereo off but cant figure out how the rest of the unit comes out.

so any help would be great.

once you remove the little screws it should all come out in one piece

what did you use to try to remove it?

Oh dear...

The fascia should NOT come away from the main part of the unit.

There are 4 small holes, 2 on each side. It is best to use the correct removal tool (they are only £3-4 from any car spares place and look like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Vauxhall-radio-stereo-removal-keys-NEW-tools_W0QQitemZ330096142922QQihZ014QQcategoryZ1498QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

What re you planning to put in the big space instead?

you can get double DIN extraction keys from halfrauds which is probably your best bet, from what I remember they sell them for £3.99 which is what they go for on fleabay - before postage!!

Push in until they 'latch' - too far won't work.  Then pulling the levers apart and towards you and it should come out easily, assuming you haven't already damaged it,

when the pins go in, they push the metal clips of the stereo inwards towards its unit, now when my stereo was taken out (with difficulty) i noticed that it was because one of the metal clips was bent so very slightly too far outwards that the stereo keys were slotting in and going down the wrong side of the clip, pressing it away from the stereo, instead of tucking it into the stereo to enable it to slide out

How did you get on with the removal?I pulled out one of  the blank swiches one side of the unit  then using the keys (Brought from halfords) helped it out.

Hi, when you get the Sony unit installed can you post your thoughts on the quality, both sound and bluetooth operation? I have had to send my new Pioneer 75BT back as it is faulty, it cannot be replaced as Pioneer no longer make this model. Apparently a new model is due out in a couple of months according to Pioneer UK. I have looked at the Sony MEX_BT500 headunit but there is not much feedback on it available.

Hi korum, did you ever get the Sony unit fitted, and what are your thoughts on it?

Hi all sorry for no responce been away for a few weeks.

Got it all fitted in the end :y

Phil the sound quility is good but tbh im no audiophille so dont really notice the differences, the bluetooth function on the sony is great if you want to know anything specific about it then just ask and will do my best to fill you in.

But all in all i would recomend the unit to anyone :)

oh the only thing i can think of thats abit annoying is that u cant have an external mic to it andthe posistion of the internal mic meens i have to raise my voice sometimes so the other person can hear me (though this maybe down to the other person being mutton jeff ;) )
