HIDS & Headlight Washers....
« on: 05 August 2007, 00:06:08 »

Hi all,

Bought an Elite a few weeks back and have just been reading another post about people wanting to buy aftersales hids or retrofitting some from a knackered elite. My question....

My car has just gone through it's MOT and it doesn't have the headlight washers (somebody obviously liked em before I bought the motor!!)....... so has anybody got any spare(obviously will pay for em) and are they easy to re-fit??

cheers

They are flipping expensive, like £40 each new!

Alas, they are sought after, so fetch good money 2nd hand as well.  Not sure if they fall off due to weak clips (under a lot of pressure), or if people nick them, but quite common for them to be missing :(

Did it fail the MOT because these were missing, if so which section of the MOT handbook did they reference?

That's odd. I can't see that as a reason for failure even with HIDs - unless the online manual I'm looking at is out of date.

As Mark says, ask them to point out the clause in the tester's manual.

It is not an MOT tested area, but is a legal requirement when factory fitted.  Trying to find out if requirement if retrofitted, looks probable that it is, but very grey. Chances of getting pulled if you are sensible with headlight aim is probably low.

It's an Elite anyways so not retrofitted. Originally factory fitted aren't they... some bugger prob swiped them for their Omega CD's to retrofit. ::)

No worries though.... will get a set in September when I have some pennies after me hols!!
