If you've got Alpine gear and perhaps add some aftermarket squeakers, the bose is nothing to shout about. Yes it's ok for a factory spec car system but if you've gone the upgrade route there is better to be had, i'd still be tempted to keep it stealthy though  :y

That was the idea behind modding the CCR2006 to get a decent line level output. After doubting it for a little while that route has actually proven to be a good one.

I embarked on changing the front door speakers because I thought the original ones were knackered, but didn't investigate it properly and it turned out to be a noisy pot in the amp ::)

The new speakers do sound better but it was a lot of work...

And just to close this down - Spoke to the Vauxhall Service Manager today at the dealership in question (after an exchange of letters). He would not agree with me that they had been less than thorough with their investigations into the problem. Vauxhall have a procedure for fully checking the radio which apparently takes about 3 hours and nees a highly qualified sparks to check all the connectors etc so they didnt do that due to cost etc. He wouldnt accept that either the procedure is wrong or they didnt follow even a basic fault finding process it if they didnt even bother to check the obvious connection on the amp. If I had written any process it would be remove head unit. check connectors. Check amp connector. Being as the amp is in the boot and most likely to suffer from being knocked or having its cable accidentally pulled out you'd think this was obvious. oh and as its visible without needing any tools its would be for me the perfect place to start.

End result, he will refund my £18 fee and I promise never to darken their door again with my car :-)

3 Hours to work out if a head unit's breaked?  :o :o :o  ;D

So, in that 3 hours they didn't check the connectors were all plugged in? In fact, they were insufficiently qualified to do so?  :-X

Good old VX dealers strike again ;D

Still, glad it's sorted in the end.  :y I wouldn't darken his door again after that service.

I guess I need to be clearer - he told me that it would take 3 hours of a fully qualified auto sparks to check what the problem was. The £18 was their 'diagnosis' fee for spending a few minutes seeing if there was any obvious fault. I guess the cable hanging out of the amp wasnt obvious enough. Had a fairly spirited discussion on the phone but neither of us was going to budge from our positions hence the refund and me never going back.

I have to say it was a lot of fun, havent had a good argument like that in ages !

For info.....here is an extract from the Vx formal diag programme showing the initial steps to be taken when diagnosing the said system:

Quote
Work Order Description

All consumers turned off
Verify battery condition
Check all fuses
Check all connections and plugs of the concerned electronic system Check all ground connections
Perform visual check of all components of the concerned electronic system
After successful test/fault repair proceed to the next test step
Note:

The battery must not be disconnected at this point of the Diagnostic System Check, as the control units of the vehicle could otherwise lose stored diagnostic information.

If the system operates correctly after replacing a defective fuse, the switched circuits, which are supplied by this fuse, should be checked for short circuit to ground.

So its a case of Please read the manual (Read The Fing Manual) for your local dealer.....they have the tools available to allow them to make quick and ordered diagnosis....there just not usin them!

This is the bit they didnt do - said it would need a qualified sparks and 3 hours for this step. I dont think so....
