stereo help please
« on: 29 November 2007, 10:49:57 »

right i have been a total muppett,
only had my smega for a week or 2 and have had some problems, had to change the indicator stalk over as mine was fooked so i diconected the battery and did the repairs, when i went to turn the radio on it came up "SAFE" so i have read the mawell and seen that i need to enter a code and as per usaul no code any where in any of the paper work i have been given.
have contacted Vauxhall, they were very helpfull and told me to book it in in 2 weeks time and that there is a minimum charge of 2 hours labour and that as its a new car to them they have a policy of doing a diagnostics on the car so they can build up a file on it, not a bad policy i suppose but when you consider that means its going to cost me £130.00 plus VAT just to have the radio decoded i think thats a bit much.

any one got any ideas please Thanks Tony

on the radio it says
Phillips
No.:90 532 621
TYPE:CAR400
2F3
MINISTERO P.T
61/01175/22293/A
DM 25-6-1985
DM 27-8-1987
WA019710

then theres a bar code bit

Tony

Two options.

1) Order a security pass from the dealer (requires registration, chassis number and address etc), this has the radio code (plus key number, immobiliser PIn - if applicable etc).

2) Do a search on the web and you might be able to source the code using the radio serial number.

Ah the old keycode security system.... the only thing it secures is income for the dealers >:( Security through obscurity at its finest.

I've written the codes for mine on the top of the unit. It's not like anyone is likely to want to nick it in the first place, and if they do it's trivial to get the code anyway. So the only person it's likely to inconvenience is me when the battery is disconnected or similar, hence writing the code on the unit :)
