Blower direction not working.
« on: 18 February 2008, 17:12:40 »

For some reason my direction selector dial for my air blower has decided to pack in.

It seems to be stuck on demist, which is what I usually keep it on, either that or demist and footwell.

Any ideas guys?

Is it the rotory type control??
If it is it sounds like the the selector rod has come off the heater box.

Yup, is that easy to fix?
If I have to remove the heater panel that would be ok as I need to refit the stereo properly as it keeps sliding out of its cage over time, so I was thinking about doing that at the same time. Mite hang off and get some blue LED switches and do those as well.

Normally just a clip type push fit. IIRC

It wont be a selector rod as there isnt one!

The setup is vac based and is normlay as a result of poor vaccum to the cabin so check the under bonnet vac pipes as a starter and work your way to the switch as the last port of call.

If you find out what the problem was can you let me know 'cos mine doesn't work either! I had all the switch panel off mine and found the supply pipe from the engine bay and sure enough, no vacuum. I did have a quick look under the bonnet but haven't fathomed it yet...

For some unknown reason, it's started working again.
As it's working, I dont know whether to start poking about as I will probably break it. ;D

I will keep you guys posted if it packs in again, and keep checking this thread for updates.

Cheers

What you will probably find is there is a vac leak in the engine bay and that when on light throttle (high vac) it all works fine, floor it and go on wider throttle openings (lower vac) and it wont work....

Anytime I have noticed it not working has been at idle if that makes any sense? :-?
