Just bought a carin sat nav off fleabay for the mig.
Had a look a jules how2, but got a few questions.

The wiring loom in the kit is a single one piece loom that looks like it will struggle to reach front to back. Is this the right loom or is there extensions missing from my kit??

It also has a spare red wire coming off it with a spade connector on it. Any ideas where this goes?

Also WITHOUT GETTING INTO A COPYRIGHT DISCUSSION I have no discs with the system. On the back it has 22SY581. Is there a current software I need to update and what maps disc do I need??

Sounds like you've bought the estate loom, because the unit is mounted on the tunnel between the seats the loom is shorter.

No idea about the red wire with a spade, I'd try not using it and see if it worked first.

You need Navtech or Teleatlas map CD's check Ebay and look for Carin.

Why not just fit it on the tunnel like the estate or under the passenger seat?

I have a tunnel mount available if you choose to do so ?

I fitted an estate loom into my saloon.  A bit of careful unpicking, and extending a few wires makes it possible.  If you're TC switch is above radio, then connection easy as well.

Red wire needs a connector on it, and put in to the 6th hole of plug that connects to loom.  Dave DND will seel the connectors - same as std ISO radio pin.

You'll need to rig up a bracket for unit in boot.



I have a fistful of 1998 maps here, but about as much use as used condom smeared if dogsh!t really.   Again, without getting into copyright discussions, Philips equipment does seem prone to laser damage using CDRs, so stick to proper disks...

I agree totally with jamie here, don't go down the copied route with the Carin.

I got a 2005 tele atlas disc on Ebay for £20 delivered.

I have a fully working Carin Satnav CD Player (saloon) with proper boot holder/support and a 97 Genuine map disc...£20 plus about a fiver postage...pm me if interested

Colin, sorry, had I paid attention and realised you were EK based, I would have offered you a spare disc I have and to take a look at the loom. (I work in the centre of Glasgow  )

The loom, if you want to modify....

unwrap it from loom connection plug to where the button and screen loom join cpu loom.

Seperate grey/yellow (lights signal), as this does not need to be touched.  Cut the othe wires between screen and cpu.

Lay loom out as to would in car.

The CPU to loom connection section needs to be extended by about 3'

The Speaker pair need to be extened by about 2'

CPU to screen need to be extended quite a lot.

To save messing with GPS receiver cable, I mounted the GPS receiver just above cpu, by popping it through the small square hole just above cpu, so it sits between metal and card/carpet section of parcel shelf.

i totally agree with you there, without going into copyright discussions i made a back up copy of my map disc in case the car got broken into and disc stolen etc and it completely locked the whole system and had a nightmare after trying to get it working with the original disc , the cdr got smashed and binned
