Hi Guys, cruise has suddenly stopped working   checked all fuses and they seem ok, any ideas?
Will I need to give it a chat with Tech II to find the fault or is it something I can trace myself?  :-/

The most common cause for malfunction seems to be the switches in the stalk themselves rather than the other components.

The good news is that, if this is the faulty component, you can simply swap the indicator stalk for another one.

You car is a later "DBW" (Drive By Wire) car and therefore this stalk swap is surprisingly cheap and easy to do.

In fact for cars that don't even have cruise control, the stalk is all that is needed to get it.

The above link is a guide in the maintenance section which talks you through "adding" a cruise control stalk to a DBW car that doesn't have it as standard. This process will suffice for what, I believe, you should try as a 1st point of failure.

On a 2.2, its most likely to be either stalk (£30), brake switch (£12) or clutch switch if manual (£15) - prices based last time I bought them, and ex VAT).

Obviously, a Tech2 can tell you which it is fairly quickly, depends how much a Tech2 session costs your way.

Thanks both, I haven't had the displeasure of paying for Tech II yet so have no idea of the price........I might get a new stalk first and see if that works.
Is the stalk available on Trade Club?

The stalk isn't listed in the Trade Club book.

'Trade Club' prices are much lower than 'Trade' prices which are obviously lower than retail. If you try it on with the dealer many will let you have non 'Trade Club' listed stuff at 'Trade' prices.

Does that make sense?

I've had poor quality or misaligned stop lamp bulbs disable my cruise control in the past.

Cheap fix if it is.

The stalks are about 35 quid new but, the cruise part rarely fails.

Do check the wire where it exists the base of the stalk though as I have seen one with a broken wire here (easily repaired).

The normal culprit is the brake switch.

Ok I fitted a second hand stalk this morning from an Omega of the same model and year.....cruise still not working  

Do I replace the brake switch next and is this the same switch that operates the brake lights as they are working fine?  :-/

Then I suppose the clutch switch if that doesn't cure it?

Assuming the DBW cars use a similar/same brake light switch as earlier cable throttle cars, there are 2 sets of contacts in there. I temporarily 'lost' my cruise when I fitted a new brake light switch (car would come out of Park) cos I hadn't adjusted it correctly to start with.
