iPod Connection?
« on: 28 August 2008, 13:14:23 »

Hi,

I've got a Philips head unit with the Bose setup all stock in my 97 elite. I would like to add a head phone lead to the unit which goes to the centre console where I can plug my ipod - has anyone done this before or can offer tips??

I dont think its wise soldering the headphone lead into the back of the head unit as it ruins it or something. If thats what you was considering :S

i can recommend the Harman Kardon kit, it really is about as good as you can get without going to the expense of a dedicated ipod ready head unit.

Ebay will fine them on sale for less than £30 as well. bargain, add a couple of hours for fitting and all is good  :y

Thanks for the replies. I want to keep this well out of sight so if I could locate the ipod in the centre console arm rest thing and hide the wiring through the centre console that would be awesome.

Guess I should have asked if the philips gear has an auxiliary in or can I rob the autochanger in?

same here.  and to make matters worse i must have lifted handbrake too high and its ripped the cable out of the bottom of the hand controller too. bah. took it apart but i think soldering is out of the question. might as well get another one for the sake of 20 quid or whatever they are on ebay. theres a trader selling the components separately on there now too.

How about the Dension ICE Link plus setup?  It connects up to the back of the stereo and interfaces via the cd changer.  Allows you to change track via the head unit or steering wheel controls.  The downside is that you lose the use of your cd changer.

http://www.dension.com/icelinkplus.php

I had this in my mini-facelift and it worked beautifully.  I had the iPod hidden away in the glovebox and just used the steering controls to manipulate the tracks.  Unfortunately it does not work with facelift stereos so I cant use it in my new car.  I think I have it in a box upstairs somewhere actually!

I had a look and found the Dension kit in the spare room.  Since I won't get any use out of it anymore I am offering it up for free to anyone that wants it.

The cradle that I have is for an ipod mini.  You can get plastic adapters to use other ipod types.  Better off checking the Dension website to see exactly what it supports.

The blue cable is where I had to extend it so that I could locate the connects 2 box under the glove box because as we all know there is not enough room for it behind the stereo.  Very easy unit to fit.
