Don't know if this is anything to by tunnie, but Sikaflex if opened will go off, if un opened it doesn't but it still has a shelf life..

I'd say yes as at Audi all sealants have a shelf life, as do headgaskets which I would never have thought could 'go off'!

Don't know about the black, but the grey - for your sump - goes solid in the tube!  :(

It is basically RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanisation), so will be OK in the sealed original container for a very long time.

Once opened, it will start to harden slowly over time. But if you do not leave the tube open for too long when using it, it should easily be good for at least a few months.

Unscrew the cap and check the tube. If the paste is runny when squeezed and carries a very strong and unpleasent semll of solvent, then it is fine...

I needed some last week, and used the tube I opened when doing the cam covers lst April, and the stuff was still good.

Having said that... if in doubt it is obviously better to invest the £2-£3  the new tube costs!

You might find a little sealant has cured and formed a "plug" in the neck of the tube but once you've shifted that I'd say the rest of the tube will be fine.

It goes off in the need of the tube so you have to remove the 'plug'.

It does have a shelf life (as per many such products these days i.e. brake slave cylinders!) but, this rarely affects the product. You just have to apply some common sense and judgement,
