Fog lights latest
« on: 06 December 2008, 15:31:28 »

Done some checks

Fuse is fine, light works on dash.

There is no 12v at pin 28 but there is a pulsing of the voltmeter - about once a second it pulses up to around 1v.

So where can I check next?

Thanks

I have connected a wire to both out wires from fuse 28 - just have to feed it to the passenger footwell now :(

isn't there a relay too for the fog??  unsure if that goes though if it would/should affect the dash light also...

Yes! As said before, there's one in the main switch (have a look in the wiring diags in a Haynes) ... it knocks your fogs off when you turn your lights off so you don't leave them on for days & days after the last tiny bit of fog early morning mist.

Right

Everything up to fuse 28 is fine, all works as it should, but there is no power at X8 in the passenger footwell.

It is one run of wire from 28 to X8 no connectors AFAIK but to hoik it out is a nightmare.

There are two outs from fuse28 one to X8 and the other to the dash.

I have run a cable from fuse 28 outlet to the footwell then will extend to the boot, where I will cut the loom.

I MAY even use the fog light relay in the boot - not sure as yet.

This sounds ever so like a dodgy switch unit, you can change the fog switches in the main unit they pop out on their own, as all the main units are the same, at least on a pre-facelift and minifacelift they are, the only difference being mini facelift dont have the lights on the switches and pre facelifts do.

you can even use a front fog switch to work the rear fogs(and vice versa), just that the symbol will be wrong on the button.

ill stop blabbing now..  ;D

Switch is OK - wiring issue AFAIK

What a nightmare!!!!

Wire was damaged somewhere in the dash area, so the new lead got power to the boot.

Spliced it in - no lights. (but 12S power)

Cable breakage by the hinge as well!

Will tidy soon, but basically new wire from fuse to boot!

I think I had one properly faulty and one intermittant

But there wa no power to 12 S either and that was upwire from the lights, nor in the loom into the boot.

TWO breaks
