Mounting 6x9 speakers on a facelift rear shelf
« on: 19 March 2009, 08:14:48 »

Well I'm starting to be real  boring with the speaker questions but I've never seen such a stupid car as an Omega when you try to change the speaker components.
I've finally found out that the rear door speakers are 5 1/4 which is a complete waste of money. cost like hell and you get nothing from them(at low frequencies).
So I'm planning on mounting the 6x9 speakers on the rear shelf.
I posted a question about this a few days ago and nobody said anything useful about my case.
Now this is the problem....
My car is a facelift Omega, radio is ccr2006 without Bose.
I also have an electric curtain in the back.
Has anybody ever tried to mount 6x9 or at least 5x7 speakers on the similar shelf?
The space is quite tight and don't know will the speakers fit in.
I know I'll have to cut the metal underneath the shelf, but can not see is there enough space to do all this.
Please guys if anybody did this page me or write it down here.
Thank you!

Pointless going for bass from a door setup anyway, its the most rattly and flexible part of the car! You could damp the panels using flashing tape but, you cant do much about the door catch linkages and window setup!

Rear shelf, I would probabaly mount in the metal panel just in front of the blind assembly and then tailer the grills into the shelf above (as is done with teh bose setup)

I was thinking the same way on my mv6 the metal shelf already had cutouts in it witch just need three spots cutting thro to remove the blanking plates. I was thinking of mounting the6×9s in boxes under the metal shelf ( rebating the mdf to get the speakers to sit flush .
