Everything else works fine, but I'd like to listen to something else.

Does it shuffle through the discs ok?

Does the eject button "click" as you press it?

[highjack] Mines the same, says 'no disc' even with 6 in the breach, only clicks the first time I press eject. Tried it with the top off and it takes whichever disc in, says 'no disc', press eject and disc moves about a 1/3 of the way back towards the cartridge and stops, clicks then does nothing :( [/highjack]

So with the top off, does it fully load the disc? Does it spin the disc?

The disc goes all the way accross, no spinning though.

when mine did that (several times before i decomissioned it) taking the power lead out the back of the changer would often help an eject, that and / or 30 odd eject presses  :(

Sounds like a dead laser that cannot determine a disc has been loaded

Probably salvageable though

I have another CDC2 but it's not the FD type needed to match with my CCRT700. Could I swop out the laser on that or will it be different?

Laser should be interchangeable -

But have a look at swapping the main pcb over instead - may be easier if the internal wiring is the same - Its the components on the main pcb that allow it to work with different heads, the basic mech and chassis are the same.

Thanks for your response.

The eject button wasn't clicking, but I took the unit out, removed the covers and checked for a faulty switch before my initial post.  I thought it might be a bit dirty, but it wasn't, and when I tested the switch, it clicked, as it does now that I have put it all back.  Probably removing the powe completely caused some sort of reset anyway.  It's possible that the switch is broken internally - maybe I'll dig out my multimeter and have a go, but I'm not sure exactly how to test that sort of microswitch.

As I said, absolutely everything else works fine - it changes and plays the 5 discs in there as perfectly as it always did.  I just can't get the ******* magazine out!

Check the rear of the switch for dry joints - and follow the tracks on the board to make sure no dry joints on the way. Most of those switches only had two connections on the back, and should momentarily "make" as the button is pressed. I`m fairly sure your problem is dry joints or a knackered switch, as selecting through the cartridge rules out any expensive mechanism faults.

Thanks for that.  I may be wrong, but I rather thought there were 3 wires going to the switch, which was why I was a bit baffled about how to test it.  Anyway, I'll have another look later on.

It's a solid looking and well built piece of kit, isn't it?  Suppose it needs to be to withstand the battering it takes.

Unusual for three, but if so, two of the pins should show a short when button pressed, and if any are short normally, they should show open when button pressed.

Yes 3 wires to the eject button (red, white and blue.... how very patriotic!) I've changed the mainboard from the FD that doesn't work to the non-FD that doesn't work and hey presto it works :y Eject button still doesn't work though. Tried both switches and both wire sets in various combinations but still no go. I'll manually pop the cartridge and load it up anyway, I don't change them very often anyway ;D ;D

How do you do that?

As far as I can tell, the switch is working, but it's a bit fiddly to test, as (in the absence of a fully equipped test bench) it needs to be checked in situ.  It needs 3 hands, and as the only available assistant was a somewhat surly, impatient and hungover student, I was not able to spend as much time on it as I would have liked.

For the record, there's definitely 3 wires - one of them seems to feed a tiny LED which flashes when the ignition is off, and glows when the radio is turned on.  What's that for?  No-one can see it without removing a retaining bolt, and nine Torx screws!
