Evening All,

I have been looking at buying an omega estate (I nearly
bought one yesterday except for 'issues' with the seller
regarding 'unknown' faults) that he must of known about.

Anyway, I have been to look at a 1998 3.0 Elite today which
i'm interested in but it has a rather odd 'fault' and I was
hoping someone might be able to point me in the right
direction as to the cause / possible fixes / costs.

The car has 3 keys, 2 of which have the buttons for the
Remote C/L, now one does not work via the buttons
(battery ??) but does start the car and the one which does
operate the Remote C/L will not start the car, you simply
get the 'engine' light flashing when you insert the key
which I take means the immobiliser is not recognising the
fob , which is strange as it works the Central Locking.

Any advice greatfully accepted.

The key where the buttons don`t work.......probably needs the micro switches renewed inside (Martin Imber on here does repairs) The key that doesn`t start the car might well have the transponder chip missing or it may have become dislodged

Take the key that works, remove the remote part that doesn't and fit the remote that does = 1 working key

  I only thought of it because I haven't opened my first can yet

Thanks for the replies,

It's just i'de prefer to have 2 working remote keys so I take
it I would be looking at getting an Auto Electrican to recode
a replacement key if the chip hasn't come loose in the
remote. Also what do I look for in the remote to identify the
chip to see if it's come loose ? is it a push fit or soldered on

The remote, if it's not the battery, probably needs the micro switches repairing/replacing. Have a look for Martin Imber on here, he does a great job reconditioning them.

As for the key, check the transponder is still in it (small black chip thing inside the horseshoe shaped part). If not then you need a new one and a Tech2 session but you'll need the car pass to be able to have it coded in
