Key immo cloning.
« on: 02 November 2009, 15:57:28 »

I have a Focus with only one, manual key, and for safety reasons,  I want to get a spare, remote key. Key and cutting is around £30 and I can program remote locking myself (as per Ford manual). I cant program immobiliser with car ECU as I need two keys to do it so I would either ask Ford to pair it with my ECU (which is around £100 for a 10 min job) or get it cloned by a mobile key specialist. Second option is not the best one as some ECUs don’t like two same immo’s around, and it cost ca min £50 for cloning!
Do you know anyone that has a device to read and code 433,92 Mhz key and could do it cheaper than £50?

With the high investment the mobile guys have made in transponder programming equipment, I doubt you will find one cheaper than £50

With all the Ford work I'm doing lately especially with keys I'm very tempted to buy myself a cloner. I'll have to look into whether they work on Vx/Opel keys too.

Oh yes, I know that and understand that some people want a quick return of invested  few hundred £ within a year and have to charge that much but I was thinking more about the "radio" people that are programming gate transponders, craft models controls for far lower money. Not only key transponders are using 533.92Mhz frequency and as far as I know it's only a matter of recording signal.
I would have to ask them

Yes, its not a bad tool for programming transponders, but what they don`t make you aware of is the extra £500 needed for the software to cope with european vehicles via the ODBII socket.

If you are seriously looking into it, then the AD900 is a far better bet to get you started for a sub £1k machine allowing you to program the crypto 40 used in Opel/Vauxhalls.

So, lets say full kit would be £1000, then to get the money back, you need to program...25 transponders (£40 each programming)!! That's 2 transponders per month to get the money back within a year! So after second transponder each month, money goes into your pocket!
Add some profit on key and fob, cutting plus the majority of keys are being done without VAT or recipe and it looks like it's no brainer...
So still a total rip off to me, not worth more than £20.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Dave, do you know how or who would be able to read 5433.92Mhz and code it to the transponder chip?

£1000 is for a "hobby" kit as shown, not a professional one - and a full kit version to do it properly would be around the £5K mark I would suspect, and then add the cost of the chips and keys, and you will see that it all adds up.

Also, you make a false assumption that the frequency is all that you need to worry about - wrong ! the chips are coded with specific algorythms, and often on rolling codes to prevent people from simply trying to "clone" a key rather than programming a new key to a security system. Its far more involved than I think you realise, and doesn`t really compare at all to the guys playing around with fixed frequency R/C stuff.

But in answer to your question, Yes, I do know people who can do it, I can also do it here, but I would strongly go with the bargain price you have previously been quoted of £50

I have received an offer of 20 quid for cloning and I think I'll go for it.

And as far as I know, Bosch KTS can pair transponders with ECU and it cost around 5-6k and other possibilities of this device are almost endless...
