CID corrupt and sometimes white
« on: 25 November 2009, 10:46:51 »

Hello everyone, newbie here!

My CID has developed the dreaded dry-joint problem which I planned to fix this week using the instructions I found months ago on this site, however they now seem to be gone.

Can anyone remember what the fix is?  I seem to remember it the connector on one of the boards, but don't remember which.

If the fix is very hard, does anyone know what would be a suitable replacement for the LCD part?

Thanks,

Steve

Think you will find that this is not simply a matter of repairing a dry joint. The fault is almost surely with the LCD screen which will need replacing and a guide to doing this is at: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1242645051
or you can send off to BBA-Reman if you don't feel able to tackle this yourself( http://www.bba-reman.com) who will repair with 2 year warranty for about £180 I think.
However one word of caution is that the actual correct replacement screens may be in short supply
They are made by Sharp and you will almost definitely need to sourced from abroad. Others on here that have done this may be able to advise further on a suitable replacement model and source. HTH

Thanks all.  I've found this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sharp-5-LCD-Opel-Alfa-Vw-MFD-Comand2-0-Audi-Navi-plus_W0QQitemZ290373402573QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439b9a7fcd

Would that be the correct part?  Also, looking at the Sharp specs it would appear it has a second video input, has anyone tried adding DVD or TV to it?  Although, I'm wondering if it uses the second input for the map display and genlocks the menus over the top?

Here is an old post of mine from 2007. I have a cid unit awaiting TFT - as I got a replacement from German ebay which is working fine 2 years on - have not yet got round to fixing the spare.

From 2007
"Update on the 5"tft colour screen.

One or two of you asked about where to get these screens and wakeyomega gave some pointers - a ring round as follows for part LQ 5AW136 or 136R:

1. Arrow Electronics - 01234 270027 - £104.17 plus 40 euros delivery - the stock is in Sweden

2. Rutronik £113.16 plus £7.50 postage - awaiting stock

3. Datamodul 01473 835777 - £105.00 plus £30 delivery - stock in Germany"

Will be interesting to see what you find out 2 years on

According to this Sharp page http://www.sharpsme.com/Page.aspx/americas/en/part/LQ5AW136/ the LQ5AW136 was discontinued because it didn't comply with ROSHH (reduction of substances hazardous to health)(normally means eliminating lead solder and murcury).

It was replaced in 2008 with the LQ5AW136(R) and that was discontinued 3 months later.

The page goes on to show a possible alternative series LQ050Q5DRxx but I can't see anyone selling them and I don't know enough about the CID to tell if it is pin for pin compatible.

Hi Steve
Went through the exact same problems a couple of years ago. Heres my post with source details, hope it helps.
Rgds Pat http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1178480402/1
I'm pretty sure there is also a 'how to' for replacing the LCD

Good Luck, Pat
