Light switch question
« on: 28 November 2009, 18:00:56 »

I'm after a light switch with both front and rear fog light switches, waiting to hear from Ian D about one at the moment, but I have noticed looking at ones on Ebay there is some variety in these swiches, mine is in very good condition but no switch for front fogs, my question is, is it possible to take out the blanking plate and just fit the front fog switch to my light switch?

If you already have the wiring/connectors in place for the front fogs I would have thought replacing the blank with the switch would "complete" the loom circuit

The light switch is a self contained unit that plugs into the dash, so it's if the connections are in the switch itself, and if the fog light switches can be removed/replaced independantly.

I've got a light switch here with both fogs, height adjuster and dimmer from a 2001 ;)

I'll get a picture taken of mine and post it up, as I want one exactly the same. Does anyone know if the foglight switches come out seperately? If they do, I think these are all the same? so could just use the front fog switch in my light switch.

Did this mod on my '99 GLS , fitted fogs to the front, pluged them in to the existing loom behind the bumper swaped the switch on the dash and stuck a fuse in the board and working front fogs with the warning light on the dash as if they were factory fit. The fog switches do come out of the main light switch so you could just change that bit.

Right thanks Tim7, so I Just need the front foglight switch to fit in my light switch. If anyone will sell me that of course.
Am I right in thinking I need to take out the light switch to get the front foglight blanking plate out and fit in the switch? To move a tab or something?

You can take the fog switch out with out removing the whole unit, they come out as a pair, the just push in no locking tab but are hard to pull out, it proberbly will be better to take the whole switch out as this gives better access and makes it easer to removes the fog switches. Hope this helps  :y

I now have fully working front ( and rear) foglights.  :y

As noted, the foglight switches are one unit, which are removable, there is a small locking tab that locates when the switch bank is in position, so it's better to change these with the complete light switch removed from the dash.
I couldn't get a card down the left side of the light switch as the locating/locking tab had gone too far in to a hole at the side, on mine there is a button there at the side of the light switch for TM ( taffic Master, which I don't have) and the sprung tab was accessible to push in from the hole once the TM switch was taken out.
Everything was already wired up fused and fitted, just needed the switch. :y

If you take the D shaped end of the dash off, you can get your whole hand on to the back of the switch.  ;)

Though I didn't know you could get your hand right round the switch by removing this end piece, I wanted to do it without removing it, as it was freezing outside and I wanted to work with the car door closed, and second my door strap is broken( next thing on the list to replace ), so I have to hold it open as my car is facing uphill on the drive, I know I could have held it open with something, but we're back to the cold then  ;D ...yeah...I'm nesh  ;D
