Problem with my amp :( (aftermarket)
« on: 18 January 2010, 10:09:32 »

Hey guys i got a DUB2502 amp as a bday present from my old folks (and a Vibe Slick 8awg wiring kit). i wired it all up yesterday all excited and could wait to fine tune my bass.... but.... the amp lights up, but in protection mode. i have searched the net and such to find answers, found one site saying to test this that and the other (fuses, connection etc) but none seem to help.

The one thing have found though is that when everything is plugged into the amp (as it should be) the protection light is in, when i unplug the RCA cables, the light goes out and the amp seems to power off... when i plug them back in, the red protection light comes back on...

any ideas? (im looking at DND Dave here :P)

What are you powering with the amp ?

What head unit are you running?

2 12" subs no more than 500w each and my headunit is a JVC KD-PDR61
Ive earthed the amp to the car... put it to 1 of the bolts/screws holding the offside rear light. i even scratched the paint away to make it a better earth

Classic Installation fault !!

The earth you have used is not adequate enough around the rear light panel and may actually be the cause of your problem.

Drill a nice big self tapper into the floor chassis section, near the base of a rear suspension turrent making sure that you do not go through anything underneath. Ideally, you are aiming for the box section underneath. Nice bright shiny metal as you did before, and connect your earth to this via a nice big ring terminal or earth foot if available.

This will give a good earth return to the battery with minimal voltage drop along a good bit of solid chassis that has minimal welds and seam sealent unlike the rear panel which is a very poor earth indeed.

Let me know how you get on.

Agreed, that would have been a problem on many head units, and pure luck that the JVC RCA outers are connected directly to chassis !!
