Car alarm going off
« on: 24 January 2010, 16:29:00 »

Hi  I have a Vauxhall omega and when I get in the car the alarm goes off and then I have to get out of the car and lock the car to deactivate it . This has been happening more and more frequently.
Now the car radio wont switch off and the last two days the car wont start without a jump start
There is quite clearly a problem with the alarm / which is affecting the battery - how do I get if fixed without paying an arm and a leg

My first guess is the powersounder has failed. This is an "extra" alarm with a built-in rechargeable battery... that is known to fail :(

It is probably trying to charge all the time so draining the main battery.

There are several threads on the subject .. including pics of one that caught fire !!

Best bet is to disconnect it while you think on the next step.

Well I followed Robbo299 instructions and they were so easy to follow for a newbie like me and no car repair experience- many thanks Robbo299 and of course you Entwood for diagnosing the problem and sending me the link.
I really struggled to get the scuttle cover to llift any more than a couple of inches ( I was afraid it would break)  so kept pulling and the plug connector came off . All the indicator s started flashing but no noise and the radio kept cutting in and out for about 5 minutes .
Had to recharge the main battery and then wow - it all works - I am so pleased I googled my problem and it brought me to your website
Many thanks again :)
