Small help from DaveDND needed
« on: 25 January 2010, 17:21:39 »

Dave I need a little explanation.
Double Din units which are advertised as steering control ready, what does this mean?
Do you need an adapter also for them or they simply connect to some existing wires coming from the steering wheel?
Thanks

I believe that means they have a facility for wheel control, but need a stereo/car specific adapter.

Beat me to it !

Not all stereos have the facility of connecting to the steering controls of the car, but those that do will often have a  dedicated socket or wire that needs to be connected via an interface to the car.

Years ago, you bought a particular interface for both the car and the stereo, which was ok untill you changed the stereo in the car at a later date and had to buy a new interface, for us dealers, it was also very expensive to keep full stocks of all variants.

Now, the interface comes in two parts, for the Omega, its a PC99-X06

http://www.dndservices.co.uk/pc99-x06.html

which plugs into the wiring of the car, and if you look at the selection of leads on that page, you simply need the extra lead that goes between the interface and your head unit, for instance, if you had a Blaupunkt, you would also need a PC99-BLA. However, if you decided at a later date to change for a Panasonic say, you retain the original expensive interface, and only require the Panasonic patch lead, PC99-PAN

Hope this helps

Yes it does very much Dave.
Thanks.
Actually what puzzled me some stereo  ads said Steering wheel control ready so had no idea what they meant under that cause really don't have any experience with Double Din units. They still are not popular here cause of the price.
I did buy a cheapo aftermarket stereo, not still sure wheter I'll keep it or not but when it arrives I'll have to check what type of lead it needs.
I have a sony lead but have no idea what this uses.
It's an Eonon  :-X
I know no comments on quality please ( price was more important)

yeah as others said, they are 'ready' for it, you may still need to buy adapters to make it work. Double DIN units are pricey, i tried the cheapo double din route, did not work well.

You need a nice 7" Pioneer Touch Screen unit really, but not sure if they are worth £700  :-/

I would advise spending money on a decent single DIN unit  :y

All UK Spec Sony H/U's do it, does a series of beeps when the ignition is turned off.

Not sure about where you are, but here in the UK, the manufacturers will not spend any money whatsoever developing any form of interface leads for the cheapie stereos.

Eonon interface lead ?  Not a chance, sorry.
