Ohhh, borderline.

If facelift, Siemens NCDC2013 + GID/CID, bit of rewiring.

If prefacelift, CARiN.

If you completely removed the data screen, GID/TID/MID/CID whatever you want to call them,

what is the most basic functions and displays that you would lose? Clock etc?

Anything that is essential for use?

Thinking along the lines of replacement of that entire panel with the LCD display from a standalone nav unit - is it theoretically possible, or are you going to lose something that you cannot live without? (assuming of course aftermarket radio with own display)

On a base spec, just time/date/temp/radio info.  After base spec, all fuel computer functions.

See http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1223312555/0

In first pic, to left of radio, that is a CARiN unit.

The 2nd pic, and the colour display pics further down that thread are the Siemens units.

For CARiN, you need:
CARiN Display
CARiN control button
CARiN CD Unit (in boot)
CARiN loom

For Siemens:
NCDC201x stereo
GID or MID display
GPS receiver
bit of wiring behind stereo
Possibly a bit of Tech2 work

Sounds that way - does your dash look like mine (in that link posted earlier)?

CARiN was the factory fit option then.  Bit dated now, but can be picked up cheap.  Pictorial only (ie, no 'map view' like Tomtom etc).

It is possible, as you can tell from that thread, to pick up a Siemens system, which is what I have in mine now (in addition to the CARiN).  Lot of work to fit that in the prefacelift though.
