Elite heated seats - are they working??
« on: 18 February 2010, 15:18:20 »

Are my heated seats even working on my omega elite? The light comes on but they never seem that warm! I mean they arent gonna be immediate, but after I;ve had my rear sat in them for 10 mins they seem warm but surely thats just my backside? My friend had heated leather in his Calibra and they seem a lot hotter, he in fact needs to turn them off after a while, ive never noticed that much heat. What do you guys think? are they non-functional? what do i do to check them out?

mine get lovely and warm, you can definately tell the difference between heated and just bum heat! I can't bear to turn mine over setting 2 as they get to warm. I would say yours aren't working, my drivers seat gets warm almost straight away, the passenger seat takes a couple of minutes. The back seats are almost instant too.

they do fail, with leather your bum should be on fire within about 1 minute, if not they have failed.

Sadly they cannot be replaced on leather as they are stitched in  :(

They can be repaired, but its very very time consuming indeed and you need to know exactly what you are doing electrically.

The problem is that with age the braided heating wires (which have dozens of very fine wires spun into a fine cable) can break, usually in one of the sharp "corners" of the seat base. You then get hotspots which fail causing an open circuit and non-working seats!

A repair will quite often highlight another weak point which fails soon afterwards. As Tunnie says they can't be replaced as thy are sewn into the leather facings.

A heating pad could be fitted from a non-Elite seat, but finding one that is still working will be an issue and Vauxhall don't supply the elements any more - "NLS"  - No Longer Stocked.

I've repaired a number of leather seat sets in the last 6 months, but if I were to say that it's a days work per seat then that probably puts it into perspetive.

Sorry about that.
