A year ago TB did a review of Code readers.

I am just about to contact Camberley Auto Factors to see what they have but noticed a few posts regarding Sealey devices. All I want is something to reset the eml and give basic fault code advice beyond pedal trick. Halfrauds have something but it is £130 - Gunson OBDII.

There is a Sealey VS8700 for £70 on Ebay - will that do the basic job I want. I may get the emissions sensors moved at some stage but not convinced on need yet as problem of eml can take months to reappear.

Can I do something dangerous with the Sealey basic - like messup settings - if it is just a reader  then this would be better for me

We have a "general purpose" code reader here for when cars come in with EML lights on, and I must say I`m very pleased with its performance and ability to communicate with the majority of cars - also has a nice printer facility !!

Maxiscan MS509 and can be picked up for around the same price as the basic ones around now.

Looks like that is an updated and improved version of the GS500 that I have ... and I'm well pleased with it... this one is also slightly cheaper !! (but make sure it's genuine .. there were a lot of fake GS500's around when I got mine ..)

Yep, worth noting that those readers recommended will, I would imagine, only work with OBDII compliant Omegas (2.2/2.6/3.2).

I have a Sealey VS8700 and it's excellent, but like Kevin says will only work on post 2001 cars. It can be a little funny with the 2.2's as well but I find if you start the car rather than the red lights it'll read it every time.

Is this a stand-alone reader? You don't need a laptop too (apart from printing off live data)?

Is this a stand-alone reader? You don't need a laptop too (apart from printing off live data)?

Standalone reader with a good LCD display for the graphs / data etc.

There is a serial port on the top that plugs into your PC for downloading / printing, as very few printers can take a direct input from an external device.

OK have bought Maxiscan MS509 off Ebay - thanks Dave DND.

Also bought updated copy of TIS 2000 - my version is old and does not have wiring diagrams.
