I'll add that if you go and get an alarm installed, be very careful who you have do it.

In all my time, I have NEVER seen an alarm installed what I would call properly.

When I bought the Subaru, it had three aftermartet alarms on it, all wired in through the same place (poorly). Even then, it took less than an hour to remove all of them and re-solder the wires, etc.

My recipe is exactly the same. A single flashing LED and a concelaed isolation circuit for the fuel pump (also removing the feed to the fuel gauge)

A simple hi-brite blue l.e.d. flashing (or two) will deter 80% of car thieves

I would be carefull about adding a Blue led though, as this is the colour of choice now by a couple of manufacturers - and if a thief thinks he knows the make of an alarm, he may well decide to tackle it anyway.

I would stick with a red one - 99% of the manufacturers use that colour - keep it simple and keep them guessing.

I dont see the point and personaly would not go to the expense.

The factory fit install already meets the insurance
requirements.....and if they really wanted to nick it they would....

Your biggest risk is going to be smash and grab attacks.....and no alarm deters these.

Save your money

Really? You think?

Two identical and fairly common Omegas parked side by side in a car park. Thief knows that time will only permit him to attack one of them and run away. One has an aftermarket LED flashing on the dash indicating some extra security has been fitted. The other car appears to be as it came out of the factory.

Which one do you think the opportunist thief will go for?

My advice is,

leave nothing visible in your car, get a steering lock, get
any aftermarket alarm with flashing LED and get stickers saying Alarm fitted and Tracker fitted.

Most joyriders and criminals should be put off by this and go for a much easier target.

Sorry to be blunt, but having spent the last 14 years dealing with these naughty people ... the easiest target is always the one they will go for,,,, of course unless they are a major criminal nicking cars to order!!  Then nothing will stop that !!

Just my own thoughts !

my personal view is i wouldnt bother,IF they have got the time to bypass the factory fit they have the time to take the wheels, where it stands. But its your pride and joy so the choice is yours :y :y :y :y

I agree, Ploppy, I've spent 30 years trying to stop "naughty people" stealing things, and IMHO nothing will stop an individual that really wants something, but 60% of people are put off by something that will detect them, inform the Police, or make other people direct attention towards what they are doing at that time. The people that are left are PROFESSIONAL thieves, and have weighed up all possible security measures, and can either defeat them, or don't care about the consequences because they will be long gone before the authorities can act.
Have seen cars stolen on lo-loaders from some impossible places..............
