CD 70 NVI
« on: 18 May 2010, 11:40:53 »

My neighbour has just been across to see if I had a clue about his satnav. :-?
He has a 56 plate Vectra Elite, and the system requested an update to the software, so he inserted the language disc, and NOTHING, the disc wouldn't eject, and the rest of the system is U/S. The computer, and radio are fine. He took it to the stealers, and all they said was ' New one mate £1000'  >:( >:( >:(
He got the unit out of the dash, and after some fiddling with the eject button while shaking the unit the disc popped out ;D
Has anyone suffered anything similiar, and if so what is the resolution.

Dubious about the system asking for a software update, thats usually a sign that someone is meddling !!

Depends what disc he put in.

If it was a genuine disc, then the software would have been updated automatically and no futrther messages are likely to have been seen.

However, if he has downloaded an apparent "software update" from the net, then this usually corrupts the system bios and renders the set unsalvageable.

Seen a few of these.

A good genuine disc has revovered it on every one I have seen to date (around 7).

I have the required disc if he wanted to pop round to me and give it a go.

Thats good to know.

There is a similar "software" issue on VAG units where once the corrupt disc has been inserted it corrupts the flash to the point that a genuine disc will no longer be read

Thats a bugger

The vx units really dont like the copy discs and often get to the point where it says its doing a software update but no progress bar comes up.

They then start cycling through reading the cd and re-booting.

Thankfuly, the update appears to not touch the boot sector of the code (easy to see if it has on these because it wont drop into the update repeat loop).  :y

The update disc is about 6 quid from Vx so there is little need to use copy discs.

Thanks guys, I'll pass on the info to him. The disc he used was a genuine one. I think he put in the language one that came with the car.
More concerting is the fact that it would not eject the disc, and Evans Halshaw saying he required a new unit.

hmm, presumably this is a bit more serious than resetting the unit? assuming this unit has one, i know our ncdc's have a reset function, which escapes me for the momment, press main and clear for 6 secs is it?

Right he has been to Vx, and apparently they were helpful asked about the authenticity of the disks, which were in their original packaging. They took the unit apart removed another stuck language disc ( don't ask :() reassembled the unit, tried the map disc, and nothing, apparently this is now refusing to eject. The radio doesn't work either only the computer.
