Front courtesy/reading light permanently on....
« on: 29 May 2010, 10:03:50 »

Firstly the good news is that the miggy passed it's MOT yesterday without ANY drama...  :y

But driving it back I noticed that the courtesy/reading light in the front was on. I pressed the buttons next to the lights to turn it off several times - but nothing happended...

When I got home, got out, locked, unlocked (both with key and fob as it has a lazy door locking motor on the drivers side) several times, but the light stayed on.

Came back to the car 10mins later.... and light was still on. Popped the clear plastic cover - and there are 4 bulbs in there - only 2 (furthest from the window) were on, the other 2 weren't....

Had some difficulty pulling them out (as they were hot), but I had to go so my dad said he'd try to sort them out.

Got a call an hour later from my dad saying that when he went back to the car just now they were off... (about an hour later).... but when he went for a drive, they came on again and again wouldn't go out....

Just so everyone knows the power sounder and alarm horn have been disconnected becasue of the lazy door locking motor problem on the drivers side meaning it was going off everytime the door was opend with the key. Is this anything to do with it?

Any ideas chaps?

Cheers
Raf

Thanks for that - I'll have a word with my dad and give it a go shortly - not at the car at the moment.

Are you saying there is a button on the main light switch for the dipped/side - that controls the interior light?

The interior light that illuminates when the front doors are opened can also be operated manually by pulling out the main side/headlamp switch

Really!!?!? What a muppet I've been then if that's the case! The MOT guy probably tested the headlights and didn't turn them off properly (or the interior light properly...)! Doh!  :o

I'll check to make sure tomorrow!

Had that on the wife's old 02 Elite the other week. Got hold of another headlight switch and all was fine for a few days then when I washed the car again within a few hours on they came. I had a new windscreen fitted just before it all started and think there is a small gap in the screen sealent allowing water/damp to get to switch or light unit and allowing a short to happen. :-?
