retrofitting variable intermittant wipe.
« on: 03 June 2010, 21:28:16 »

My old car has the variable intermittant wipe.

my new one doesnt.

Is it just a case of swapping stalks and relay (which one?)

or is there extra wiring required? (as per the mod to fit to a vectra b)

Cheers

Watching quietly on the side, to see what develops.....   :-X   ;)

Sons 3.0 facelift estate had variable wipe (and rear wash/wipe) but mine does not, for some reason. Dunno why, his had the same spec as mine.... ::)

is it because they have auto rain sensors?

PS Completely off topic - why does jimbob have less stars by his name compared to hotel 21 even though he has more posts?

To get the full range of timed intermittency you need to swap the relay under the bonnet as well.

Mine too. I think when the rain sensor came out they decided it was that or fixed intermittent. Wouldn't mind making mine variable actually. :y

Jimbob is a moderator whereby he can and does add to and edit posts but cannot move posts/threads, delete users or update user profiles, unlike an admin.

Hopefully, thats an explanation in a nutshell!     :y

Ahh, now, I had that out and played with it, until I realised it was my wiper motor that was fubar. It's one of the relays in the box by the battery. Yellow one in front of the two purple ones (main engine relay and fuel pump relay) I think.

So anyone know if the loom is there for it to work?

iirc on the vectra B, you added the stalk, the relay, and ran a couple of wires.

As they were standard on so many omega's I am hoping its just the stalk and relay needed. and the plugs are already there.

I believe the variable wipe works by placing a resistance in the feed from switch to delay relay instead of just a short circuit, so the wire is there. May need to bodge the connectors at the stalk end if they are different though. Will have a TIS later. :y
