Cam Belt - Slipped by 4.5 Teeth & 3.5 Teeth
« on: 19 February 2008, 09:07:23 »

A public apology and a huge vote of thanks!!

I have been so busy and nowhere near a computer for 10 days so I haven't been able to post about a recent miraculous escape.

James (V6CDX) came to South Wales on Saturday 9th Feb to look at a stricken sickly MV6..

..People may remember a post about a shredded Aux belt that a mechanic thought may have caused the cam belt to have slipped, it was making such a racket that he was not prepared to go any further..

We looked at the timing and thought ugh, but turning the engine James thought that he could feel compression on all cylinders so as we had all the parts at our feet - we thought that we had nothing to loose!!

New belts, water pump, aux tensioner assembly etc later... the moment of truth -

 ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D            Sweet as a nut !!!!!!!         ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

The vehicle was driven home, only 2 miles -  just to try her - there are a couple of minor things to look at, cam covers leaking and a little hunting when idling - probably a result of putting the engine together with a torch in the dark but she is alive...

THANK YOU JAMES   :y  :y

It all depends in which direction the cams slip. In your case, it was obviously the right direction. :y

I was 70% sure it would survive based on my experience with my own 2.5. Thankfully it did!

I'm getting too old to be putting these things together with a torch in between my teeth ;D ;D

Edit - Bah - Maria has left herself logged in again...  >:(

an interesting theory, but i've never seen split personalities actually have different physical manifestations before... nor require a double bed when staying over....
