Sensor fault
« on: 07 July 2010, 09:29:14 »

Hi all.  ;)
I have a levelling sensor fault, and am about to have the wheels off to investigate.
Before I do...can you advise me as to whether these sensors can fault 'intermittently' or do they fail totally ? Reason for asking is that peering under the wings I cannot initially see anything untoward. However, whilst on holiday I carried a full load, and noticed that when I hit a good bump, the 'checklight' goes out for a while, then comes back on after smooth riding for a while.  :-?  Happened quite regularly with a load.....but not noticed it happen with just me and her ladyship on board. I think  'Check' is on all the time. Obviously I don't want to renew uneccesarily if its just wiring or a plug or dodgy wire.
The car has had new S/L shocks in May for MOT when I purchased it.
 Thanks in advance  :y

Chances are the arm has come out of its socket on the sensor. wheel off will show exactly whats what. I fastened mine back in with a few strategically placed cable ties :y

The wording on the screen on the dash is Low Beam/Fld Vision  with the CHECK light on.

As said in OP, hit a good bump and it all clears for a while, then up comes the same message with the CHECK re-alighting

Headlight levelling sensors, as suggested, must likely the arm has popped off, usually on front.

Are you sure you are checking the HEADLIGHT level sensors on the car ... front left wishbone, back LEFT suspension arm .. and not the car level sensor .. back RIGHT suspension arm ... they look very similar.. ?? :)

If its not those then it might be internal to the light. The adjusters break but can be replaced with ally ones ..

Thanks for info Entwood... :y

Yes...am checking nearside sensors....will do a full wheel off in the morning...then will report my findings..
Actually, as you have mentioned the RIGHT car level sensor...would that one be the one that controls the leveling according to load carried, out of interest ? Sorry for seeming thick  ;)
Thanks both of you again :y (and TB)

So the ecu can work out what angle the car body is and adjust the headlight beams accordingly.

I got the low beam/failed vision message on my Vectra CDX, it was because one of the xenon bulbs had failed...

Thanks Captain.... :y

It IS confusing to keep seeing the terminology of 'levelling sensors' as someone new to Omega's, but I think the job they do is quite different if I read correctly......

1....the two sensors on the lefthand side gauge the angle of the car and make adjustments to the headlights NOT the vehicle body

2....the sensor on the righthand side, gauges the level of the vehicle under any load in conjunction with the self levelling shocks and alters (via ecu) accordingly to keep the body level.

 :y :y :y :y   SORTED...(I hope)
