« on: 04 August 2010, 14:02:03 »

all my omega problems have now been solved and it only took 4 mins !!  it first started with a little smoke then it turned into a fire.  the fire brigade were excellent, ( i wonder if i can claim water damage as well ?) this happened this morning on the way to do the shopping.. just outside morrisons.. free entertainment for shoppers.. all i can say is thank god for fully comp. ins. car is now in storage waiting for assessor and then hopefully a payout.

the most common omega fire seems to be caused by the powersounders going up.  been aware of any faults with yours?

Really sorry to hear this. :'( As said, any signs of where the fire started might help us prevent other cars suffering in the same way.

Fuse 14 does supply the switched supply to the power sounder. :-?

If you're Fully Comp. your insurance company should be able to organise a pushbike? Bully them into giving you one with at least 21 gears & a padded seat! ;D ;D ;D :y

Does sound suspiciously like a powersounder failure. Sad to hear, but at least it sounds like you got out safely and everybody is ok.

 :'(

What was the weather like when it went up? Cold and wet by any chance? When did you last drive the car?
What state is the main battery in ?

Any data would help with the ongoing investigations as to what is causing this.

It would also be interesting if you can recall under what conditions the fuse was blowing. :y

sorry for the delay- been sorting things out with ins. comp.  - its not as bad as it looks ,it can be repaired...     at the time it was dry but it had been raining earlier ... it was a nearly new battery (type you dont maintain) it seems the wiring behind the cigarette lighter was the cause of it all.. its a long way off being road worthy but i think i can do it all myself ( counting on OOF for guidence) insurance is paying a decent amount so should be able to get back on road. time will tell..

Good to hear it'll likely live to fight another day. Cigar lighter is also on fuse 14 IIRC.
