After market stereo...
« on: 14 September 2010, 01:16:37 »

Ok,,,

need some advice please...

looking at putting an after market stereo in my facelift omega...

I only want it for playing my ipod through it and radio... dont need a cd player.

However , must have a lead that charges and plays the Ipod, is there a system that the lead comes from the rear of the stereo?

Im looking at hiding my Ipod in the centre arm rest.

Thanks

Have you got a head unit in there now?

If so then forget the replacement head unit just fit a Parrot MKi9200

Charges iPod, has track names on screen, is a handsfree kit and plays directly via car speakers, not by an FM modulator first like some do.

Have one attached to my NCDC 2015 and works fine and only took a couple of hours to fit. So same cost and effort as fitting new head unit

Yes, USB is at the REAR of the unit, and it charges my Ipod perfectly

I can vouch for this, I have one fitted in my elite and it works great, there is a good length to the cable that connects to the iPod so you should be able to get it to the centre armrest ok (also has a usb and jack connection) :y

Its not too bad to fit either (even with the lack of space behind the dash) basically take the plug out the back of the head unit and plug them in the wiring that is supplied with the kit then the plugs from that go back to the headunit.

It means the parrot kit can use the car speakers when you want to play the iPod and make / take calls.

The remote is wireless as well and comes with a steering wheel mount (although I found it got in the way and mounted it next to the satnav control)

I recently acquired an FL Mig with a double din JVC HU (Xri something model) fitted instead of the 2006, was quiet supprised how good and clean the sound was using the standard Mig speakers.

It has a small flap on the front for Aux in and USB, as I dont own a iPod I was curious to see whether it would charge my Sony Ericsson Satio via the USB which it did, I was also surprised that it dug out all my music on the Satio's memory card and listed all the tracks on the HU display so I could flick through them using the HU controls, suppose thats what they all do now, must get out more!

Now I just use a 2.5 portable Hard Drive in the glove box to store my tracks.

Chris.  ;)
