i think the battery on my keyfob has packed up, so the boot button doesnt work. i tried pressing the boot button on the dash but nothing, so i wondered how you open the boot without the key button active? on my minifacelift i could just put the key in the boot lock!

I think you would have to gain access via rear seats and pull handle in the boot

Drop the back of the rear seat .There,s a "T" shaped handle,pull this and boot,s open.

It doesn't need the key in the ignition.

You have to press, and hold for about 3 seconds, before the boot pops open.

Took me a while to discover that 'feature'.

Why they didn't print '3sec' on the button beats me....

do you mean the button in the car or on the keyfob? none of the buttons on my keyfob now work so guessing its battery has just given up

Facelifts up to 2001, key out of ign, a quick press of dash button

Agree with all the above. 

Also, the battery on your key fob is a doddle to replace and is widely available from many shops including Boots the chemist. 

Screwdriver in the little slot on the back, twist gently and the fob separates from the key.  Do this over a table because there is some danger of the tiny bit of black plastic which is your unique chip falling out of the key saddle part. 

Separate the halves of the fob and you will see the battery, which just pulls out.  Mine was a CR2032

cheers chaps. yeah ive got some spare batteries here somewhere, its a 2004 facelift so i'll give it the three second button press a shot

I take it that worked?  Mine's a 2004 FL, and if I hold the boot button in on the dash for a few seconds - even when driving, it opens

Its a 2003 facelift - there was no 2004

date of registration is january 2004, on a 53 plate, although i accept it is unlikely to have rolled off the production line in the three weeks prior to it being registered

My other arf's was registered on 11 03 2004 on an "04" plate  .

got to be one of the last ones registered surely? didnt the police have a fleet of 04 plates before they disappeared? (and i dont mean sting, stuart copeland etc)
