markh1.

Heated seats seem to be a constant topic on the forum as they are prone to failure, especially on the leather seats. The most common failure is a break in the wiring inside the seat base or back pad causing the entire circuit to fail as becomes "open circuit".

Some have managed to repair the break in the wire with a piece of wire soldered in place but the biggest problem is locating the break. If on fabric covers it often burns through so you can see the damage area and carry out the repair.

Bit harded to trace on leather..you can do a test on the wiring with a meter and atleast establish if itis the back element or the base but again seat needs some dismantling.

Leather seats seem to be more prone to breakage as expect caused by kneeling or weight being applied onto the seat pad.

I have decided to use a proper retro kit from Waeco as their elements are much stronger than original GM and also a lot less money ..only issues are bit of extra wiring which thanks to several  people have now steered me in the right direction so hope to have a warm seat sooner than later this winter.

My leather seats are MV6 sports so may have a few more issues and will not be able to get a heater mat into the thigh bolster as original, but small downside.

Are yours standard leather or sports style ?

Somewhere on the site is a set of pictures of the seat dismantled and shows what is involved.

By all accounts they are very heavy and due to air bag issues require battery disconnecting atleast an hour before you start unplugging anything.

Then I think its just grit your teeth and have a go..trouble I have is car can,t be off the road for too long as my means of work transport.

Hi, Did anyone find the diagrams for the heated seat dismantling. Preferably idiot proof if possible, especially if it involves making sure you don't set off the airbag by mistake..... Saw one article that said someone broke their arm setting one off, but unfortunately didn't tell you how not to..... And no smart comments about keeping your arm out of the way lol Thanks!! Edward.
