sorry if this has been asked zillions of times.but
« on: 08 January 2011, 20:56:35 »

I have mini facelift with tape and 4 cd changer, car also has Traffic Master.  I want to swap the head unit to an aiwa one I have, I already have a standard ISO lead, will this be okay? - not worried about steering wheel controls or using the TM.

The only reason for asking is I've seen an ISO lead on fleabay specifically for vehicles fitted with TM, also some say ISO lead for non amp cars???

Car is a 01 (Y plate) MV6

Thanks chaps

I've no idea about your question, but an 01 Y plate car is a facelift.  ;) ;) ;)

As Andy says your car is a facelift, not mini-facelift. Big difference!  :)

You can change the head unit, although I am not sure Aiwa will be an upgrade!

Standard ISO leads will do, I assume you have not paid up for traffic master.

Note you will loose steering wheel controls, and radio display in the MID. Unless that replacement unit supports them, and you buy the extra adaptors.

You may also need to switch the +12V and switched +12V lines.

You don't need the so-called ISO adapters (You'll never get the HU back in place with an adapter behind it unless you tuck it up behind the R/H side) if you slice the top block off the 36W plug.

okay thanks guy, I stand corrected on the mini/full face lift - maybe I'm getting the Ulay/Surgeons knife mixed up  :D

Maybe the aiwa isn't an upgrade, but I have it and it allow me to connect my ipod at a cost of about a fiver as opposed to obtaining the code for the standaard head unit, I'm not to worried about the controls or the display - had the same in my old omega.

You only need to connect the lower 2 blocks (16 pins), but will have to swap 12v and W contact 12v over :)

Assuming the headunit you have is single DIN height, you will also need a facia adaptor to full out the double DIN hole in the dash board. If your MV6 has the silver dash trim the match isnt always perfect. The one i got (3 years ago) is a pretty good match.

Like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-C-SILVER-CD-STEREO-FACIA-AERIAL-ADAPTOR-/370438346086?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_FasciaPlates_SM&hash=item563fd89566#ht_1478wt_1199

I know this probably a STOOOOOPID question, but I presume you remove the existing double din cradle, detach the plugs from same and clip the a new single din cradle to the replacement fascia panel?  Is the TM loom easy to extract? if so, it'll be available if somebody needs one.....for some beer tokens obviously ;D

... Is the TM loom easy to extract? ....

TM loom is a plug in extra between the head unit & the car's loom
