turn signal and headlamp switch
« on: 14 January 2011, 15:38:33 »

Hi all , hope I have posted this in the right section , my trusty omega estate has just developed an annoying habit of flashing its headlights at random I think that the indicator / headlamp switch must be worn is there any way too service it or must it be removed and replaced if so is it necessary to remove the steering wheel along with airbag mehanism to do this , i am afraid that it might cause another motorist too think that i am flashing him saying its ok too drive on through and cause an accident , any info much appreciated , cheers  :-/

Replace. If non cruise, must be loads being chucked. If cruise, be wary of 2nd hand - only about £35+VAT from dealer anyway

No. You just need to remove the trim from around the steering column just behind the wheel, the indicator then just unlips & slides out.

if you have cruise control you would be looking for a 4pin/connector stalk if you havent got cruise then you only need a 2 pin/connector stalk  :y

Not quite...

If you have cruise and a 2.5TD engine, you have a stalk with a 2pin flying lead

If you have cruise and any other engine, you have a stalk with a 4 pin flying lead

If you have no cruise, you have a stalk with no flying lead.

Stalk removal in all cases:
Turn wheel 90 degrees left to reveal screw in cowling (behind a small clip on cover. Remove screw.
Turn wheel 90degress from straight ahead position the other way to reveal other identical screw.
Unclip top half of the steering column shroud.
Remove the 3 screws from the underside of the lower steering column shroud, remember which screw came from where.
For post 1998 models, unscrew the steering column height adjuster lever.
Gently remove lower shroud, easing over rubber surround around ign switch.
Squeeze the 2 levers on stalk (on on top, one on bottom), and withdraw, undoing flying lead if cruise stalk.

Refit is reverse, though lower cover can be fiddly - just be patient
