when you go around corners? You could be very low on oil ie as you corner your pump loses suction.

Or it could be a build up of crud on the pick-up causing the pump to not be able to suck up oil ...... like SWMBO's Smart.
or a duff switch  :-/

I have this same problem, actually a recurrence from some time last year.

Two points:
- It is generally acceptable to have flickering oil light at idle provided it clears immediately - I think the manual will confirm this
- I changed the oil pressure switch and the problem cleared

So I would not worry too much, meantime I must go and order a new switch..

This may be true but I have never seen a modern car do this without a problem.

The problem may only be a faulty pressure switch, but it could just as easily be a blocked pickup strainer or filter, low oil level, oil pump problems, etc. 

In this case "not worrying too much" will result in a seized engine so I would always treat an oil light as an indication of a serious problem (serious enough to stop the car and have it recovered home).

Only once the oil pressure has been measured would you know if it's a faulty switch or a real threat to your engine.

Fair comment all Kevin...I am thinking to swap my sender out and then adapt the old one for a pressure gauge to see what the true story is..

You can actually get oil pressure gauges designed to screw into a sender thread - used by the trade when an oil pressure problem is suspected.

After the catastrophic failure of our Beetle Turbo after a flickering light and sludgy oil strainer, the first thing I would suggest to now do is an engine flush followed by a complete change of Manufacturer approved grade of oil and oil filter.

Omegas, especially V6's are very marginal on oil pressure.

I'd carry out all of the above, plus checking that the  cooling system is working properly.....

check current oil pressure, both cold and hot (hot = immediately after a run with air-con on)

drain & flush

clean out radiators

check that the front undertray is secure

re-fill with good, approved oil

re-check oil pressure

Hi all,

Having a similar issue on a V6 2.5l GLS, where the oil level warning comes on and goes off after while.

This only happens once oil temp has reached normal operating temperature. When I check the oil level manually it is OK.

In fact, when it first happened on a longer motorway journey, I topped up the oil and the level is now pretty much at max. No, I didn't just put all of the bottle in

The brake light check warning comes on some times as well but not as regularly.

I had a major service only a few hundred miles ago (may be 400 miles?), where the oil filters, housing and head casket were changed.

Any advice you can throw my way is much appreciated

for the brakeligt check: ignition on, no foot on brake and it will pop up.
for the oil light: drop the oil sump and check the oil pump filter. its probably stuffed of goo, or in the worst case replace the oil pump

Thanks for the tip. Will check. Hopefully it's not the pump!

Break light warning comes on whilst driving and when I check to see whether it is actually working, it is working fine.

then there is something wrong with your light bulb.. buy 2 new ones and you won't have problems . only 2-3 pounds
