DVD/Bluetooth Double DIN Unit Transplant
« on: 13 March 2011, 10:09:14 »

Hi,

Been considering fitting a 7" Double DIN DVD/Bluetooth player 'XTRONS TD717' to my facelift Elite. Has anyone had any experience with this unit and what should I look out for when performing the transplant from the factory fitted CCR2006.

Many thanks - Brian

Can only suggest to not fit it too securly in place, as the brand is so unreliable and of such poor quality, that you will probably be removing it again very shortly.

We have now taken the descision to no longer install that particular brand for customers due to the problems that often follow.

I'm guessing branded stuff like Clarion...

I personally think the location of the HU makes it unsuitable for a built in screen...  ...too low...

If you import one from the us, be advised that it might not play region 2 dvd's ::)

Now have a video ipod on my christmas list. :-X

Also not a huge amount of space behind the head unit.

Hi,
The XTRONS TD717 spec says Multi-Region (or Region 0) so should be ok. The unit is built in China and shipped from a local UK facility for fast delivery. Overall depth (front to back) of unit is 169mm including 12mm ish for the protruding screen. Height is standard double DIN at 100mm. It actually looks like a good piece of kit although I guess until it's fitted and run it's difficult to assess. The TD717 is fairly new and has a new UI release for 2011 which includes a 'slide touch' screen like the Iphone/HTC Desire. Check it out at http://www.xtrons.com/2-DIN-car-dvd/7-Digital-T-Screen-Bluetooth-Car-DVD-player-TD717.html

Video IPod sounds good - pretty pricey though I beleive!

Put one in my miggy last year without any problems but after a few months the touch screen stopped working. But what do you expect for the price. Good for bluetooth and Iphone.

Hi,

Which model XTRONS was it?
Touch screens can often just need recalibrating. Did you find out what was wrong with yours.?

BTW they now have a 2 year warranty if purchased direct from XTRONS

As a matter of interest how many of you OOF members have used/fitted XTRONS 2 DIN Units and what models have you had experience with. Warts and all would be useful.

Cheers

Gosh Dave - that's seems a bit harsh!  :-?

I'm curious to understand what problems you've had in the past when claiming direct with XTRONS.
This of course all helps me make an informed decision as to which unit to purchase - i.e. XTRONS or other make.

Cheers

That`s a comment from someone who obviously doesn`t understand what I do for a living, and my involvement with all aspects of car audio !!
