Hi, A fair while ago i disconnected my powersounder due to the usual fault that has been well documented on the forum. As my Omega is parked outside my house and there have been a few cars either broken into/attempted thefts in our area lately, i have been a bit concerned regarding the insurance situation, ie; powersounder disconnected, if anything happened to my car. I have just purchased a new powersounder from my local Vaux dealer and wondered if anyone had any advise regarding fitting a new one. For example, will it be just a matter of exchanging the unit and is there any special way of setting the alarm after installation. Thanx.

I think you should just be able to plug it in. Probably best to do so with the ignition on so it doesn't go off. Or isolate the battery first.

I swapped mine out the other week.  The old one gave a half hearted single beep on diconnection (didn't bother with the battery disconnect/40 seconds thing) and then plugged the new one in.  No ignition on, no battery disconnect.  Seems to be working fine.

I replaced mine as it was doing the "4 bleeps" thing ... disconnected the battery within 15 seconds as per handbook. disconnect old PS, connect new PS .. reconnect battery....

All done with no noises to upset the locals....

Thanx for replies chaps. I disconnected my powersounder quite a while ago ( unplugged it ) so, weather permitting will plug new one in and see how it goes in the morning.

BUT what's the point of a power sounder.  Thought most disconnected it and don't bother having a working one.

Jonny Toe-rag decides he wants to try to nick your car. He breaks in. The alarm triggers & the alarm horn & the power sounder both sound, so he disconnects the car's battery to silence it all. The alarm horn stops, but the power sounder due its own battery continues to sound .................  Same as most other decent alarms.

I'm about to remove my powersounder (usual problem). But can someone just confirm that the alarm horn, lights, immobiliser and all that will still function without the powersounder? Obvously i wont have the dual redundant sounders if someone was to remove the battery!

Yep, everything will function as per norm. Powersounder is purely a back-up system in the event of car battery being interfered with by prospective thief/joyrider
