hi all,

this is my first time of having a vauxhall omega and when i bought the car there was no radio fitted. i have fitted a kenwood dvd head unit with flip-out screen but i have found that the radio will only come on when the ignition is in the second position and the dash warning light are on. for some reason when i put the ignition to the first postion the radio does not come on. my question is, is this normal or have i encountered a problem :-/

Have you swapped over the yellow and red connectors in the loom to cope with the "arse about face" Vauxhall electrics?

Not sure if this will cure the fault, but needs to be done to prevent other ignition and memory issues

hi again, yes i have checked the wire swap-around and i have no issues with the memeory etc. i just dont know if an original vauxhall radio would come on in the 1st ignition position or the 2nd position. Aslo just to clarify that no wires have been cut and the original iso plug is present which connects to my kenwood wiring loom

An original radio is able to be switched on for an hour at a time without the key in the ignition at all. You can tell it come when the ignition is turned on or by the on/off button each time you want the radio on. This applied even to my 93 Senator's OE radio.

As the original radio coud be powered without the need for the accessory position, it may well be the case that position 1 does not supply anything to the radio at all, and an aftermarket radio will only come on with full ignition as it is designed to.

OK, screws that theory then -

Out with a meter time - any volts at the back of the head unit on position 1

uummm following the replies on this subject i have been outside with a meter and found that on position 1, i have 2 live wires. red at 12.75v (constant live) and blue/red at 11.25v. i could be wrong but i am wondering if the blue/red wire is to do with the alarm as when i put ignition to position 2, the blue/red goes to 0v.  :-/ other than that it seems that there is no other +feed in the iso plug. i have also checked the 3rd plug from the radio to the MID and again no 12v found in 1st position . me thinks its time to buy an haynes manual and study some diagrams :-/

Does`t sound like you are on the right pins to me

Can someone post up a diagram of the Vauxhall ISO plug please ?

I think your blue/red is a speed signal - it is for the sunroof - for turning the radio up as you get faster.  :-/

First off, i would like to say thanks for all the help and replies. I have just been out and found a solution to my problem. I have taken a feed direct from the ignition switch to the radio so now it works on position 1. Even better is when i turn the key to position 1, the radio comes on and if i turn key to position 0 the radio stays on untill you pull the key out, at that point the radio turns off.

so for me that is better still
