Whats this wire for.
« on: 14 May 2011, 18:45:23 »

Hi,can anyone tell me what is the wire that comes out of the top of the timing cover for,it's secured by a bracket fitted to driver side of the engine .(male/female connector). I'm having trouble with this wire, sometime's the motor fails to start,as if no fuel getting through, disconnect this wire, reconnect and the motor will start.
It's driving me mad trying to sort it,any help gratefully received.

If you can identify which - a picture is worth 1000 words ;) - but ultimately both can be repaired...

Still can't get the photo from photo bucket onto the forum, followed the guide, but it will not upload.
I'm using windows 7,is that any different to to xp?
Anyhow the starting problem is getting worse so my usual mechanic is going to plug his knowall puter in,and check it out for me.

Hi, well that wire had nothing to do with the starting problem, thats down to the usual suspect again.
Got it checked out last night, and code 19 again, crank sensor!.
This was replaced about 18mths ago.Vauxhall parts as well, this time it's going to be cheapo bit's.
This must be the most high maintenance cars that I've ever owned, and if it wasn't for the help of the folk on here,it would have been history long ago.

You'll be changing it again soon then, unless you're very lucky, it's recommended on here that you only use genuine crank sensors. They only take 10 minutes to fit and do you have a trade card? A lot cheaper if you do  :y

Maybe the last (genuine) crank sensor that was put on wasn't routed away from heat sources properly, a cause of early failure

Hello Johnny, the guy that do fixe's my car works for a main dealer , a very fussy guy that likes to do a good job. He's done a lot of work for me over the last few years, always first class and always gives me a loaner(Volvo C70 D5 this time very very nice) not always as cheap as I've like but reasonable.
The part cost was £68,VX cost was £84,I should have gone for the small extra cost, but was out of contact (no phone signal vanning on the banks of the river Wye in Herefordshire).
Was these prices compatible ,to your costing.
