Can I Still Drive My Car.........?
« on: 23 February 2008, 18:47:36 »

Can i still drive my car with a broken left foot??

the car's an automatic so i dont use the left foot anyway, the injury isnt yet confirmed but 18 months ago while working in a shop, i got pains in my right foot, after 5 days when the skin turned an awful colour and my foot swelled i decided to go to the hospital and they told me i had a skin infection (they must have bought their qualifications), but i played on the pain just to persuade them to x-ray and it turned out i'd broke my foot

on thursday of this passing week i suffer excruciating pain but with no apparent cause but now on my left foot, it just seemed to come from nowhere, but i've noticed quite severe bruising there now which wasnt there yesterday and so i plan a visit to hospital at some point, its a hell of alot more painful to walk on than when i broke my other foot, especially now as i'm a postman and walking around 7 miles per day, with extra weight!

any opinions welcome

:-? :-? :-?no you cant i think :-/ the law states that you are not insured to drive with any form of broken bones. if you want to be sure call your insurance policy holders and ask them...... as its them who will be asking the questions should you have an accident.

Think it depends on what hospital/doctor says.

I had DVT in my left leg a few months ago.......hospital were gonna inform dvla.........but when they found out i drove an auto, they wernt bothered. Apparently they have to satisfy themselves you can do an emergency stop.......so with a dodgy left leg and an auto.....you can  :y

Auto - I think you will be OK.

I have ridden a bike when I couldn't walk - did in some tendons - gear changing was agony - I parked on the pavement outside casulty.

Bound up ankle and given a crutch, relied a lot on TSCC torque

I know loads of people with permanent disabilities that drive autos, can't believe it looking at some of them  :o As you say your left foot shouldn't really be used for braking anyway. It would still be best running via your insurance company though :y

...yes, and as mike says, you also have to consider how you're gonna get to the boozer!  ;D

you must inform your insurance company and they will tell you, its not exactly a question of legality, its a question weather your insurance will cover you to drive with a temparary disablement, if the insurance wont cover you then to drive it would be illeagle, You do need to inform them tho, they may :-/ have to amend your cover to compensate for this

The fact is, there is no law stating that you may not drive with such a disability, the problem starts if anything happens.
