whos good at ice? only its for a boat
« on: 21 June 2011, 23:04:19 »

ok, my boat has finaly gone back in the water after 2 years, ive moved marinas on the hamble, moorings have gone from £820 per month to £280 per month, which i was paying just for storage, however, im pretty close to the m27, its loud!
i want to spend my savings on a decent system, its basicly a car system, 2 speakers in the cabin, 2 on the arch running from a old kenwood HU, what i would like is, if its poss, a HU that plays dvds to a seperate tv, is there one that can do a digi tv signal? also, uprating the speakers, adding a amp, and more speakers.
acustics? are pretty good, wireing can be difficult tho.
happy to pay for someone to fit and advise

DONT USE CAR STEREOS ON BOATS  !!!

The moisture in the atmosphere that close to the water can often lead to rust / corrosion, and in many cases electrical fires.

Use only waterproof marine grade equipment

And yes, there is a head unit that will play DVD`s, called a Clarion CMV1

thanks for the move! wasnt sure where to put it not being a car.
its a princess riviera sports cruiser about 31ft twin 5.7 chevy v8s.
the HU is down in the cabin, it doesnt get wet or any moisture near it, i even have a heater and dehumidifier running over winter so its ok. if it was out on the helm then i would use a proper one, the speakers out there will be changed to marine ones, but id like to add some more.
is there such a head unit that can get digital tv aswell? i cant find anything with googles.
thanks for advice  :)

heres she is back in water

looks much better with the covers off

stupidly happy to be back in the water after so long.

Never seen a Marine had unit with a DTV option - but please don`t be under the impression that just because the head unit is inside that is does not have to be a marine one - most of the electrical fires I have seen are from using ordinary stereos inside a cabin.

honestly mate, its dryer and warmer then any car would ever be, its a double skinned hull, amazingly well insulated all these type sports cruisers even new ones are supplied with normal non marine head units inside, and if theres a second then marine ones outside. also, the control panel is fused for 12volt stuff and is never left on when im not using it.
best pic ive got of inside really

Nice looking boat !

But I still stand by my recommendations, and the ones we get to see in the harbour at the end of the road have virtually all suffered from corrosion within the warranty period. Most manufacturers have learnt their lessons, and are using Marine heads now.

However, in answer to your question, Yes, the CMV1 has a Video output for seperate screens, it also has an RCA video input in case you were able to locate a standalone DTV unit, and also is compatable with the flybridge audio control panel, so that it can be operated from helm or cabin.

it makes a v6 mig look like a 205 diesel lol
last time i filled the tank from empty it was about £750, that was when fuel cost about 90p litre. gunna take a few jerry cans to fill it up!  it works out to roughly 1.4mpg. It was fitted with lpg but it caused so many problems, i never reconected it when she had new engines, which were then replaced again lol so just paid £400 to have it all removed. tanks were massive, and there was an extra tank on one side so she always sat low in the water and to one side, i dont roll out of bed now  :)
cant wait to get the engines up and running and get out to the solent.

Thats what people never realise about boats, just how expensive they are on fuel

Rules of physics .. :)

Accelerate a mass through (relatively, until you get to high speeds) thin air V accelerate a mass through a dense medium like water (until you reach high speeds and get "on the step" )

As they say ... "drag matters" ...  :)
